Handel & Vivaldi: Rare Works for Double Orchestra

Part of: 2019-2020 Carnegie Hall Series

 Thursday, February 6, 2020  8:00pm  Carnegie Hall - Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage Directions

Ticketing Information

This singular program explores the unique sonic experience of antiphonal works for double orchestra by Handel and Vivaldi, replicating the immersive acoustics of the cathedrals where they were first performed. Daniel Hope joins Orchestra of St. Luke’s and Bernard Labadie for Vivaldi’s Concerto in A Major for Violin, Strings, and Continuo, in which the ensemble seems to follow and echo the violinist, while Marie-Nicole Lemieux performs Vivaldi’s two contrasting settings of the Salve Regina, both for contralto and double orchestra.
