At a Solemn Musick: The Miller-Scott Organ in Concert
Part of: OSL at Saint Thomas
Two classics of the organ concerto repertoire by Poulenc and Barber showcase The Irene D. and William R. Miller Chancel Organ in memory of John Scott in this first opportunity to hear the new instrument. Alongside the installation of this world-class organ, this program celebrates the centenaries of two musical giants: Hubert Parry, one of England’s greatest composers, with his iconic setting of Milton’s sonnet “At a Solemn Musick,” marks the centenary of Parry’s death, while Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms celebrates the centenary of the birth of an American musical hero, and one who did so much to nurture the musical landscape and musicians in the USA.
