Explore the composer’s muse and the nature of musical inspiration: from Beethoven’s groundbreaking Septet, dedicated to the Empress Maria Theresa, to Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin, revived from Bach’s arrangement of the original work for two harpsichords, to Arensky’s riveting and beautiful second quartet, influenced by the music of his idol and fellow countryman, Tchaikovsky. Featured also are world premieres of William Bolcom’s The Hawthorn Tree, written for mezzo soprano, Joyce Castle and a new work by Phil Kline inspired by the music of Late Renaissance master, Andrea Gabrieli.
