FREE CONCERTS FOR NEW YORK CITY STUDENTS
"Every student (and teacher!) thoroughly enjoyed the entire presentation. It was well thought out, amazingly choreographed, the music was top notch, and the narrator/conductor was able to get the students interested, motivated, and excited."
—Marc Socol, music teacher, P.S. 32 Bronx
To invite young people all across New York City to experience vibrant orchestral performances, Orchestra of St. Luke’s offers two free concerts every year to students from all five boroughs. Previous concerts have included multimedia collaborations with professional choreographers and dancers, such as Ballet Hispanico, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane & Co., Limón Dance Company, and Dance Theatre of Harlem.
Last fall, OSL presented a theatrical version of L’Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. In the spring, OSL presented Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite, conducted by Damon Gupta and featuring Dance Theatre of Harlem, with new choreography developed in collaboration with The Jerome Robbins New Essential Works (NEW) program.
