SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS

  • Fall, Spring, and Chamber Music productions open to all participating students and teachers.
  • Four (4) teacher / teaching artist professional development and planning sessions to create residency curriculum that supports student experience of concert repertoire (includes one year-end evaluation session).
  • 16 teaching artist classroom visits (12 music visits and 4 dance visits) with up to two guest artist visits from orchestra members or collaborating artists.


  • Teaching Artist Residencies

    Orchestra of St. Luke's music and dance teaching artist teams currently work with classroom teachers in 49 classrooms in 6 schools in New York City.

    Musician Coaching & Young Composers Program

    Available upon request to schools whose music students and teachers seek professional coaching for performances or auditions and composition instruction. OSL musicians, teaching artists and partner school music teachers collaborate to prepare music students to perform simplified versions of concert repertoire and compose original music compositions in OSL Arts Education productions (generally two visits per semester).

    FREE PERFORMANCES

    Fall (November) Production:
    Orchestra of St. Luke’s musicians offer performances of vibrant repertoire. Collaborating artists may include professional choreographers, dancers, composers and conductors. Music students from OSL partner schools may be invited to participate.

  • Fall 2006 repertoire featured the music of Mozart. The program titled "Mozart's Women" spotlighted some of the composer's most beloved operatic heroines, illuminated with original stories written by students.
  • Fall 2005 repertoire was Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with animation created from student artwork.
  • Fall 2004 repertoire was Bizet/Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite with Rebecca Kelly Ballet.
  • Current presenting hosts are the Apollo Theater and Brooklyn High School of the Arts.


  • Spring (March) Production:
    Orchestra of St. Luke’s musicians offer performances of vibrant repertoire. Collaborating artists may include professional choreographers, dancers, composers and conductors. Music students from OSL partner schools may be invited to participate.

  • Spring 2007 repertoire featured a modern dance collaboration titled "¡Bailemos!" including Colombian folk song arrangements and works by Latin American composers, presented with newly commissioned choreography performed by dancers at SUNY Purchase.
  • Spring 2006 repertoire included Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with “FreeFall Modern Dance Company” and the world premiere of James Bassi’s Petrarch Dances for chorus and orchestra.
  • Spring 2005 repertoire was “Old and New, Red White and Blue: Voices of America” with Daniel Bernard Roumain and Akim Funk Buddha.
  • Current presenting host is LaGuardia High School Music & Art and the Performing Arts.


  • Chamber Music (May) Performances:
    Orchestra of St. Luke’s musicians offer music for solo, duo and small ensembles. These programs are created in collaboration with the Queens Museum of Art and MoMA, presenting partners for OSL Education Family Concerts.

  • Spring 2007 a program titled "Imagination & Expression" featured individual St. Luke's musicians performing solo repertoire, including a newly commissioned piece by Alexandra du Bois, who was runner-up in the first BMI/St. Luke's women composers competition.

  • Spring 2006 repertoire included
  • Renaissance and Jazz music for Brass Quintet
  • Spring 2005 repertoire was Baroque to 20th Century music for Strings
  • (solo to quintet)

    Family Concerts:

    St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble musicians offer repeat performances of chamber music concerts. The Queens Museum of Art, MoMA and the Bronx Museum are our presenting partners for these performances, which are hosted by St. Luke's partnership schools. The museums collaborate in planning repertoire to connect with art on exhibit during the concerts.
