New appointments at St. Luke's: Katy Clark and Elizabeth Ostrow
July 2007 - Katy Clark, director of development for Orchestra of St. Luke's since 2005, has been named Vice President and Managing Director, and as such will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the orchestra. Elizabeth Ostrow, the director of artistic planning at St. Luke’s, who has been with the organization since 1996, has been named Vice President for Artistic Planning. more
Music Kitchen Benefit Concert, June 2
June 2007 - St. Luke’s percussionist Joe Tompkins and his wife, violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins will present a concert on June 2nd to benefit the Holy Trinity Homeless Shelter in New York City featuring world famous Jazz singer Rene Marie. Marie will perform her recent single “This is (not) a Protest Song,” the proceeds from which go entirely to organizations that fight homelessness. For more information about Music Kitchen click HERE.
Major Grants from New York State Music Fund
March 2007 - St. Luke's is thrilled to announce two significant grants from The New York State Music Fund. In June 2006, St. Luke's was one of 153 grant recipients, receiving an $85,000 grant in support of its upcoming Notable Women Festival. St. Luke's was awarded a second grant by the Fund in December of 2006, receiving $125,000 to support the creation, performance, and recording of a violin concerto by young American composer Jay Greenberg; the New York City premiere of Joan Tower's In Memory; and a concert featuring the music of conductor, composer, and vocalist Bobby McFerrin. more
St. Luke's Arts Education program presents Bailemos!
March 2007 - St. Luke's Arts Education presents Bailemos! on Tuesday Mar. 20 at 7 p.m. at LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and the Performing Arts, featuring members of St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble, the LaGuardia High School Chorus, and students and faculty of SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance. The program includes music by Ginastera, Villa-Lobos, and Messiaen. more

Helen Lally and David Monn Elected to Orchestra of St. Luke's Board of Directors
December 8, 2006 - The Orchestra of St. Luke’s has elected Helen D. Lally and David E. Monn to its Board of Directors. Ms. Lally is an independent fine arts appraiser and Mr. Monn is one of New York’s most prominent event designers.

December 6 Declared "Orchestra of St. Luke's Day"
December 6, 2006 - To recognize the 30th anniversary of the St. Luke's Arts Education Program, December 6 was declared "Orchestra of St. Luke's Day" by a mayoral proclamation, read before one of the St. Luke's semi-annual concerts for City schoolchildren at the Apollo Theater.

The November 10 issue of The New York Sun featured a party at the home of St. Luke's Trustee Josie Natori and her husband Ken to introduce new friends to the Orchestra. OSL board member Georgia Frasch co-hosted the soiree which counted among its guests Vera Wang, Elaine Wynn, Adrienne Vittadini, and Gayfryd Steinberg. more.
A Major Grant from Mellon
October 2006 - The Orchestra of St. Luke's has received a major grant of $650,000 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This grant comes as part of St. Luke's participation in the Mellon Foundation's Symphony Orchestra Program. The OSL is one of only twelve orchestras in the Orchestra Program, which is now in its seventh year. This grant will be used over a three-year period to fund multi-disciplinary programming that reflects St. Luke's commitment to artistic innovation. more.
OSL Cancels UK Tour
August 13, 2006 - New York’s Orchestra of St. Luke’s announced today, with great regret, that due to the changes and limitations on international travel in recent days, the Orchestra has been forced to cancel its long anticipated performances at the Edinburgh International Festival and BBC Proms this week. Despite the best efforts of all involved, it has proved impossible to surmount the obstacles in the very short time available. The Orchestra and their principal conductor Donald Runnicles are deeply disappointed that this tour cannot take place and hope to return to Europe in the future. Read the BBC News story.

OSL's Arts Education program featured in The Wall Street Journal
July 11, 2006 - "Lucky Pupils Learn to Love Classical Music" is the headline of Barrymore Laurence Scherer's extensive Wall Street Journal feature about OSL's pioneering arts education program. Scherer notes that the "school program has been an innovative and welcome educational force for three decades." South Pacific with OSL on CD and PBS
April 15, 2006 - The Orchestra of St. Luke's goes back to Bali Ha'i. The critically-acclaimed Carnegie Hall concert of South Pacific featuring Reba McEntire, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Alec Baldwin was released on CD April 18 and premiered on PBS April 26 as part of the "Great Performances" series.
