John Feeney, principal bass of the Orchestra of St. Luke's, has played with the Orchestra since its first season at the Caramoor Festival in 1979 and is a member of the St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble. Mr. Feeney was a first prize winner of the1980 Concert Artists Guild and the Zimmerman-Mingus International competitions and a medallist and prize winner in the 1978 Geneva and Isle of Man competitions. His numerous performances of double bass concerti include appearances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall and the Metropolitan Museum's Grace Rainey Rodgers Auditorium and the Temple of Dendur, with orchestras such as the American Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra of St. Luke's. A frequent guest of the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society and the Brooklyn Barge, he can be heard playing chamber music in New York City's major venues and in many renowned chamber music festivals in Europe and the United States. He has recorded extensively for Sony, EMI, CBS, RCA, Telarc, MusicMasters, Nonesuch, BMG, and Arabesque Records. He began his bass studies with Linda McKnight and holds both a Bachelors and a Masters degree from The Juilliard School, where he was a scholarship student of David Walter.
